Advanced Gamepad Assist

Assetto Corsa on a controller is famously unrewarding, and the reason is the steering model: a stick has a fraction of a wheel's travel, and the game's own assists deal with that by damping input in ways that make a slide unrecoverable. This is a Custom Shaders Patch script that replaces that logic.

WHAT IT CHANGES

Steering limit that scales with speed and with the grip the car actually has, so full lock at 30 km/h and a much smaller angle at 200 both come from the same stick deflection. Countersteer assist that adds the correction a wheel user would make with their hands, tuned so it supports the slide rather than cancelling it. Self-aligning torque modelled through the stick. Configurable assist strength, response and dead zones, with a UI app to set them live.

It works on any car, including modded ones, because it operates on the steering input rather than on the car's own data. There is a factory preset and a set of alternatives, and the author's guidance is to start from a preset and change one thing at a time.

Wheel users have no reason to install it. On a controller it is the difference between a car that spins and a car you can catch.

CUSTOM SHADERS PATCH IS REQUIRED

This is a CSP Lua script, not a standalone mod. It needs a recent CSP build and Content Manager to enable it. Without CSP nothing here runs.

TURN OFF THE GAME'S OWN ASSISTS

Assetto Corsa's built-in stability control and its gamepad steering aids fight this one. The readme lists what to disable; leaving them on is the usual reason someone reports it doing nothing.

GAMEPAD ONLY

It processes gamepad input. On a wheel it is inert.

1. Install Content Manager and Custom Shaders Patch first.

2. Download the archive with the button on this page.

3. Drag the zip onto Content Manager — it recognises CSP scripts and installs them to the right place.

4. In Content Manager, open Settings → Custom Shaders Patch → Gamepad FX and enable Advanced Gamepad Assist.

5. Disable the game's own gamepad steering assists as the readme describes, then tune the settings from the in-game app.
