The most ambitious texture project for Skyrim — well over two thousand revised files across cities, dungeons, landscape, armour and clutter.
Skyrim 202X is a very large high-resolution texture replacement covering cities, dungeons, landscape, clutter, armour and architecture. It has been in continuous development for years and is the most-downloaded texture project for Special Edition.
WHAT IT REPLACES
Going on 2,200 individual files, hand-worked rather than upscaled, with matching normal and specular maps so surfaces respond correctly to Skyrim's lighting instead of just carrying more pixels. Stonework, timber, road surfaces, snow, foliage, metal and cloth are all covered.
It is modular: parts are published separately so you can take the landscape work without the architecture, or run it at a lower resolution on a card that cannot spare the VRAM.
The author releases in large numbered parts rather than a single monolithic download, and later parts assume earlier ones — read the version notes on the Nexus page before picking files.
Over 22.5 million downloads on Nexus Mods as of August 2026.

VRAM
This is a texture pack of serious size. The full 4K set wants 8GB of video memory or more; 2K versions are published for cards with less. Running out of VRAM in Skyrim shows up as stutter and eventually a crash to desktop, not as a warning.
LOAD ORDER
Texture replacers are resolved by which mod loads LAST winning per file. Place Skyrim 202X where you want it in that stack — below a more specific replacer you want to keep, above a general one you do not.
WORKS WITH
Any mod that does not also replace the same textures. Parallax and PBR setups need matching versions — mixing a parallax mesh with a non-parallax texture produces visible artefacts.
SAVE GAMES
Safe to add and remove freely. Textures are not save data.
Installation
1. Read the Nexus page's file list first. The mod is split into numbered parts and they are not all interchangeable.
2. Install through your mod manager in the order the author gives, letting later parts overwrite earlier ones.
3. Choose a resolution that fits your VRAM. 2K everywhere looks better than 4K that thrashes.
4. If you use an ENB or a parallax setup, install the matching optional files rather than the base ones.
PERFORMANCE
If you get stutter after installing, drop to the lower-resolution variants before you start removing other mods — texture memory is almost always the cause.
