The community bugfix compilation — thousands of fixes to quests, dialogue, items, NPCs, scripts and the world itself.
The Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, universally called USSEP, is a single ESP that collects thousands of fixes for bugs Bethesda never resolved. It has been maintained continuously since the original Skyrim and is the closest thing the game has to an official service pack.
WHAT IT FIXES
Broken and unfinishable quests, dialogue that fires in the wrong order or not at all, items with wrong stats or missing enchantments, NPCs with broken AI packages or missing faction membership, misplaced and floating objects, incorrect navmesh, and a very long list of script bugs that leak or never terminate.
ITS PLACE IN A LOAD ORDER
USSEP sits immediately after the DLC and before essentially everything else, and a large fraction of published patches are "compatibility with USSEP" patches. If you are following any modlist, it is assumed.
It is not a gameplay mod and deliberately makes no balance changes; where a bug has been in the game long enough that players rely on it, the patch documents the decision rather than quietly reverting it.

Requirements
Game versions
1.6.1170
1.6.1130
1.6.640
Required DLC
Dawnguard
Hearthfire
Dragonborn
You need this content installed for the mod to work.
REQUIRES
All three official DLC — Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. These are included in Special Edition, so in practice this means the Special Edition itself rather than the original Skyrim.
LOAD ORDER
Immediately after the DLC masters and before other content mods. LOOT places it correctly by default; do not move it below mods that patch against it.
PATCHES
Many large mods ship a USSEP compatibility patch. If a mod offers one, use it — USSEP edits a very large number of records and overwriting them silently reintroduces the bugs.
SAVE GAMES
Best added to a new game. It can be added mid-playthrough, but quests already broken in your save will usually stay broken: the patch fixes the definitions, not the state your save has already written.
Installation
1. Install through Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex from the Nexus page.
2. Run LOOT to sort your load order. USSEP should land directly after Dragonborn.esm.
3. If you use other large mods, install their USSEP compatibility patches now rather than later.
4. Start a new game if you can. On an existing save, expect fixes to apply to content you have not reached yet and not to quests already in a broken state.
TO UNINSTALL
Removing USSEP mid-playthrough is not supported and will break patches that depend on it. If you are certain, remove every USSEP patch first, then USSEP itself, and expect to revert to a save from before it was installed.
