Custom Shaders Patch

Overview

The rendering extension that modern Assetto Corsa is built on — new lighting, weather, physics extensions and a scripting layer.

Custom Shaders Patch, universally shortened to CSP, extends Assetto Corsa's rendering engine and a great deal else besides. It is the single reason a game from 2014 still looks and behaves like a current title, and effectively every significant Assetto Corsa mod released in the last several years assumes it is installed.

WHAT IT ADDS

A rebuilt lighting and shadow pipeline, dynamic weather with a proper day-night cycle, working rain with wet surfaces and spray, functioning mirrors and lights on AI cars, extended physics hooks, a Lua scripting layer that track and car authors build features on, and hundreds of individual fixes and options.

HOW IT IS USED

CSP is normally installed and updated from inside Content Manager rather than by hand — Settings → Custom Shaders Patch offers the current release channels and swaps between versions in place.

WEATHER SCRIPTS RUN ON TOP OF IT. Sol and Pure are separate projects that use CSP's WeatherFX layer; CSP itself provides the framework, not the final look. Installing CSP alone gives you the engine, not a finished weather setup.

Distributed from acstuff.club, the project's own site, which publishes no public download total — the zero on this page is an absence of data, not a measurement.

Requirements

Game versions
  • 0.2.x
  • Assetto Corsa 1.16.4
REQUIRES

Assetto Corsa on PC (not Competizione). Content Manager is strongly recommended — installing and switching CSP versions by hand is possible but tedious and error-prone.

VERSION CHOICE

Do not run a CSP older than 0.2.11 with current content. Many recent tracks and cars use scripting features that simply do not exist in older builds, and the failure mode is missing effects rather than an error message.

PERFORMANCE

CSP costs frames, and how many depends entirely on which features you enable. The extended lighting and rain are the expensive ones. Everything is individually switchable.

CONFLICTS WITH

Older standalone shader patches and Sol installations that predate the CSP version you install. Match your weather script to your CSP build.

Installation

THROUGH CONTENT MANAGER (recommended)

1. Install Content Manager and point it at your Assetto Corsa folder.

2. Open Settings → Custom Shaders Patch.

3. Pick a version — the recommended channel is the safe default — and click install. Content Manager downloads it, sets it up and fills in the new settings pages.

4. Restart Content Manager. The CSP settings tree appears under Settings.

MANUAL

Download the archive from acstuff.club/patch and extract it over your Assetto Corsa installation folder. Do this only if you have a reason not to use Content Manager.

AFTER INSTALLING

Go through the CSP settings once. Several of the most visible features are off by default, and several of the most expensive are on.
