zEdit

Overview

xEdit's engine behind a modern interface, with a JavaScript scripting layer and the zMerge plugin merger built in.

zEdit is a rebuild of xEdit's front end on top of the same record-editing core, in a browser-style interface with tabs, a themeable layout and a module system. The record view, the conflict colouring and the plugin handling are the ones xEdit users already know.

WHAT IT ADDS

A JavaScript API in place of xEdit's Delphi-flavoured Pascal scripts, which puts patcher writing within reach of anyone who has written a bit of JS. A patcher framework that runs those scripts with a settings UI. And zMerge, a merging tool that combines several plugins into one — the standard answer to a load order pressing against the 255-plugin ceiling.

It is not a replacement for xEdit and never claimed to be: some scripts and workflows exist only for one or the other, and most heavy users keep both. Development has been quiet for some time, and the last release is the one this page links to.

ABOUT THIS LISTING

This page describes zEdit by Mator. The description and screenshots are the author's own, imported from their listing on GitHub on 14 August 2026: https://github.com/z-edit/zedit

Mythiq hosts no files for it. The download button goes straight to the release file on github.com, so you are downloading from the author's own host, not from a copy of ours.

The download count, rating and comments on this page start at zero and count Mythiq only. The source's own figures are not copied here — they measure a different site, and a number that cannot be checked against our own ledger is not worth printing.

Requirements

BACK UP BEFORE MERGING

zMerge writes new plugins and can be told to disable the ones it merged. Keep a copy of the load order before a merge session.

RUN IT THROUGH YOUR MOD MANAGER

As with xEdit, outside the manager it sees no mods.

Installation

1. Download the portable build and unpack it anywhere.

2. Add zEdit.exe to your mod manager's executables list.

3. Launch it, pick the game and the mode (Edit for record work, Merge for zMerge) on the splash screen.

This release downloads from github.com, not from us, so there is no checksum to compare against. Scan the archive before you unpack it.
